    Holiday home description

    Welcome to our self-catering Longere gîte in Brittany

    This ancient Breton longere was comprehensively renovated in 2005 and now provides comfortable, well equipped, year round holiday rental accommodation suitable for couples, groups of friends or families with older children. Featuring exposed oak beams downstairs with A-frames and vaulted ceilings upstairs and having retained the original stone arched doorway, the gîte looks traditional outside but has plenty of modern comforts inside.
     
    The interior layout has been designed to provide good communal living space but give each couple their own privacy.
    Both upstairs bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin) have ensuite shower rooms and are positioned opposite each other off the galleried landing; whilst downstairs at the rear of the house is a further double bedroom with an adjacent shower room, providing an ideal solution for any guests wishing to avoid stairs (or couples seeking a peaceful retreat). All the bedrooms have plenty of storage and hanging space, bedside units, mirrors and chairs.
     
    There are french doors from both the ground floor bedroom and the dual aspect living room out onto the large terrace which has magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. The spacious living room also features an efficient wood burning stove, TV and DVD player, comfy sofas and an extendable dining table with 6 chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped to cater for year round guests and has a lovely sunny window seat- ideal for keeping an eye on the cook!
     
    Throughout the gîte there are modern electric panel heaters in all main rooms, duvets are available in weights appropriate to the season and fans are supplied if required in hot weather. There is a 6kg washing machine, airing rack and a rotary dryer outside.
     
    Outside La Vieille Longere
     
    On the patio, hardwood furniture and the built-in barbeque provide an outdoor dining space where the wonderful sunsets over the forest can be enjoyed with a glass of wine or the local cider, the local bird life can be appreciated (including green and spotted woodpeckers, common and honey buzzards, kestrels, wood pigeons...) and stars gazed at in unpolluted skies. The terrace opens onto a large paddock which has apple, oak and nut trees on its boundaries.
     
    Please note as the longere grounds are not fenced and there is a galleried landing the owners do not consider this house suitable for young families and therefore do not normally accept under 12s.
     
    There is plenty of on site parking and a separate secure store room is available to guests for keeping golf clubs, cycles, walking boots etc.

    Our gite is located at La Fontaine Rouillée a hamlet near the market village of Plessala. This beautiful and tranquil part of Brittany offers many options for sight seeing, sport, touring or relaxing and is easily accessible from the western channel ports and Brittany's 4 international airports.  
     
    There are many small medieval towns within easy reach offering a good range of restaurants and individual shops.  Horse riding is available in the nearby forest, fishing in the River Lie which runs through the valley below the longere, kayaks can be hired locally for use on the river and there are well mapped walking and cycling trails around the commune, beside the river and into the forest. 
     
    For guests using the longere as a touring base the stunning north coast beaches overlooked by international standard golf courses, inland Lake Guerledan with its range of fishing and watersports and the medieval cities of Dinan or Josselin can be reached in 30-40 minutes.

    A deposit of £150 per week is payable to confirm your booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before the holiday starts.

    Payment is accepted in sterling or euros, by bank transfer or cheque, alternatively debit or credit card payments may be made via paypal, subject to a small handling charge.
