A little over a mile along the coast from Aldeburgh, Thorpeness offers a wide range of high quality sports and leisure activities. It is within an easy drive of the RSPB Reserve at Minsmere and of the famous Maltings Concert Hall at Snape and within the village, there is sailing on the Meare, golfing on the James Braid designed golf course and tennis at the Country Club.
The Aldeburgh Yacht Club offers stimulating sailing on the rivers Alde and Ore, and Aldeburgh golf course provides a level of quality and challenge that is to be expected from a course ranked by a leading golf magazine as one of the top 100 courses in the UK.
There is a very good village store (listed as one of Rick Steins food heroes) and there are plenty of shops in either Aldebugh or Leiston. Cycle hire is available from the Meare shop just over the road or if you're feeling lazy electric bike hire is available from Aldeburgh and Thorpeness Country Club!
For dining out there is the Dolphin Inn in Thorpeness itself which offers a very good menu. In Aldeburgh our favourites include The Regatta, The Lighthouse, Prezzo, and not to forget the famous Aldeburgh fish and chips (well worth the queue!).
